அருளாநான் வேண்டுதல் கேட்டு
அருள்புரிதல் வேண்டும் … (அருட்பா 4088)
Arulaa naan venduthal kettu
Arul purithal ventum …. (Arutpa 4088)
“Oh grace ! please listen my prayer and grant it. Even an iota of anger or temporary (wordly) pleasure should not touch me ! The uncertainty in knowing the certainty should go off ! The wisdom of every human being should realize, appreciate and praise your great qualities. They should never go back or be in darkness ! Those whom I come across should be kept in happiness ! All living things should lead peaceful life ! The real materialistic thing (you the Lord) in whatever the form, visible or invisible, I should merge in that and become one ! That is the request of (sanmargam) me !
This is ultimate meaning of the above Arutpa poem. The crux of sanmargam is simply lying in the rear half of each stanza and the first is so.
“ulagar ellam unnai vazhthiyidal veandum” i.e. the entire people on the earth should praise your great qualities.
The saints, scholars, devotees, and others till Vallalar’s (St. Ramalingam’s) period did this i.e. praying the Almighty which is just for self salvation. A few concentrated in advising or guiding the people. But most of the rest do just blamed the people bitterly and spelt out through poems that if he lives with such people he will get spoiled and may not get mukthi (salvation). They ran to forest or climbed to the top of mountains to get detached from the society. In Vallalar’s poems (a few) till he destined “Karunguzhi” is almost similar of the above or chorus songs ! It is just praising the almighty and in some cases blaming self or others for not falling in line with general rule of a religion preached by self styled leaders of those days.
The above poem of Arutpa, by nature, reveals the greatest philosophy of Sanmargam which is simple and wonderful ! Step by step the poem indicates how Vallalar is parallely navigating it. As done by others till Vallalar’;s period he also followed that path (vaazhai adi vaazhai ena vandha thirukkotta marabinil yaan oruvan….) like a banana tree and its generation only from its root. Starting from Chennai “kandha kottam”. Thiruvotriyur, Thirumullaivoil, Thiruvallur, Thiruttani, Chidambaram and upto Karunguzhi his Arutpa is almost on similar line – that is praising the Lord.
So the referred poem 4088 first stanza’s rear end asked for “ulagar ellam unnai vaazhthiyidal veandum” (உலகரெலாம் உன்னை வாழ்த்தியிடல் வேண்டும்) and that request of sanmarga’s first step was granted thus.
The second request was Enai aduthaar sugam vaaithidal vendum” (எனை அடுத்தார் சுகம் வாய்த்திடல் வேண்டும்). Was it granted and where ?
He started thinking that upto this day I was fed by others. Why not I try to feed others especially those who come to see me and know something about sanmargam. So he started sathiya dharuma salai in the year (A.D. 1867) at Vadalur, which is taking care to see the people coming to Vadalur is kept hunger – free. Physically and mentally they were prepared to know about sanmargam and also they spread the message why Dharuma Salai was started ! So those whom Vallalar came across at Vadalur was kept in happiness – mainly hunger free and thus his second request of sanmargam “those whom I came across should be kept happily” was granted to Vallalar by the Almighty at Vadalur.
The third request of that poem was (எவ்வுயிரும் இன்பமடைதல் வேண்டும்) “Evvuyirum inbam adaidhal vendum” i.e. all the livings on the earth should lead a pleasant, peaceful, fearless life. Was it granted and where ?
Till Vallalar was in Chennai, Chidambaram and Karunguzhi he did not have much of people around him. From the day of his migration to Vadalur people thronged from various places, say from Chennai, Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Vettavalam, Kurinjippadi, Karanappattu and so on. Many people in all directions do started following Vallalar’s path and were fond of him. But all could not come across him. How about them ? How they can also be kept happy ? What is real happiness ? It is not just filling the belley alone ! Every living thing has some heavy heart, sorrow, disease, unfulfilled genuine wishes and they are spread all over the world. How to make them to come out of it ? Vallalar thought it is thro their knowledge to identify the root cause and see that is eliminated wisely, acquiring “wisdom” is taught in Arutpa very well. He established Gnana Sabai, “
The final is “ஒன்றாகி பொருந்துதல் வேண்டுவனே” Ondragi porundhudhal venduvanea and was it granted ? Where ?
By nature in every thing God is there. But whether every thing find a place in God ? Whether every man do possess guidelines ? Is he fit to find a place in God and get merged ? He will be fit if he practices characteristic discipline. What one things he ultimately becomes if he works for it and follow the route and rule. Vallalar’s fourth request also got granted by the gace and his ”AIM FULFILLED” and that remarkable place, unique place, every human should visit that place which is known as “SIDDHI VALAGAM” at Mettukuppam.
Vallalar born, lived, moved with the people a century back, ahedded tears for the down trodden people, just merrily merged with Almighty in front of many folks. There is record on that by the then District Collector of South Arcot Mr. Garastin in the Gazette (1878).
The crux of the poem is the God has huge trust in living things and he is very very magnanimous. He wants to keep all happy in a genuine way. We should thing that always all should be kept happy and that is only called prayer – The motivation of every human being should be to be in God and merge with him- which is called deathlessness. That is possible by every human being and he is alone called Sanmargi. This the wish, request and prayer of sanmargam. To achieve it the secret is simply in one’s acceptability, of ONENESS.
