Sri Malaiperumal Siddhar Swamigal and Sri Ramalinga Swamigal
Preamble:
Tamilnadu has been known for saivism and rich cultural heritage from the very beginning of existence. To enrich the same, as many as siddhars incarnated and lived among the ancestors. In fact many siddhars were considered to be alived before and after 18 siddhars. These siddhars dedicated their lives for realizing “Bliss”. That was the reason why they abjured the worldly life and were in a deep meditation. By which they purified the mind and attained “perfection”. This stage is indeed fit to be called “Siva” or Ruthra Amsa. It was their ultimate aim. (Immortal life).
Many personalities like Sri Rama Krishna Paramahamsar, Sri Pampan Swamigal and Sri Ramana Magarishi got attained this stage called “Samadhi” or Bliss.
Among these divine personalities, one was Siddhar Sri Malaiperumal Swamigal, who incarnated in 18th century at Kattucherry near by Porayar. After having learnt of occult and divine skills, he ostracized from family and came to Alathur. He made here many Siddhis, which helped the people to be relieved of Disease, Poverty, Mental stress. He also emphasized the importance of disciplined life very similar to Sri Ramalinga Swami’s philosophy.
He attained Nirvikalpa Samadhi- bliss in the year 1852, 11th August – Friday at 12.00 a.m.

There are eight kinds of super natural powers called as "Astama Siddhis" such as Anima, Mahima, Laguma, Garima, Prapthi, vasuthuvam, Pragamiyam and Isithavam.

A classical definition of siddhas is given by Siddhar Thirumoolar: "Those who live in yoga and see the divine light and power through yoga are the siddhars (Tamil Chittar)".
According to Kamil Zvelebil, there are some features which are typical for all or almost all siddhars as a body of thinkers.
- First, in sharp opposition to the bhakti tradition, they refuse to allow themselves be carried away by idol worship in particular temples.
- Second, in contrast to bhakti which emphasizes passionate devotion to God, the siddhar emphasize knowledge, yoga practice, and character, moral behavior, right conduct. Anger, lust and egoism are the worst sins.
- Third, almost all siddhar's raise a protest against caste and casteism.
By above all the information it is understood that the siddhars have given thought –provoking information, by realizing the “bliss”. (Assimilating with the Omnipotence). Hence they equally treated all the human beings without caste and casteism and they believed that all the every human beings have divine skills and it should be realized by us.
