LONDON: Scientists working on mechanisms that determine lifespan increasingly believe that the secrets of immortality could be tantalizingly close,a survey has suggested.
A major survey of anti-aging research has concluded that a longevity pill to “cure” ageing remains a possibility.
A review titled “puzzles, promises and cure of aging” published in the journal Nature argues that human lifespan will almost certainly increase modestly over the coming decades.
Scientists argue there is no known scientific reason why aging cannot be prevented. The goal is seen as being similar to preventing individual age-related diseases.
“Current findings involving simple organisms have no doubt that lifespan is plastic,”Judith Campisi of the Buck Institute, California for Age Research and LawrenceBerkeley National Laboratory, was quoted as saying, by Daily Telegraph.
