Song no.2.

Lord of grace by his wonderful act in the golden common

His blissful stature, I am a subject too insignificant in Him

From my state of ignorance, He salvaged and married me

His majesty, whether anyone else could recite His greatness

Testaments of higher degrees, the great Vedas altogether

Mortally are afraid, my maid, as of my mind’s measure now

I’m to attain illumination, to state simply very few on that day

What to perform to make these imprinted within me my maid.

Lord of grace by his wonderful act in the golden common

God is the ruler of grace whereas the souls are the seekers of such grace. By dancing in the golden council common, God does not distinguish between the souls and is equidistant from all of his devotees irrespective of the material wealth one has inherited or acquired and the power of position one has held or holding, honors of education bestowed on one and one who is reeling in the realm of ignorance or one who is ruling the podium of knowledge. He is dancing in bliss in the hall common to us all.

His blissful stature, I am a subject too insignificant in Him

From my state of ignorance, He salvaged and married me

God has adopted me in all compassion at the age of ignorance and spiritually integrated me into his bosom. Here Vallalar expresses his gratitude to the Almighty that had he not been salvaged by the grace then he could have been led astray by the ways of the world. Vallalar always stresses his spiritual integration with the supreme to declare to us his union with the ways of God.

While Siddha Siva Vakya says

“The One of what I think, that One I have not yet seen”

Vallalar says

“Whenever there is any thinking, it is about you only

Whenever remained without any thinking, detaching myself

From me, I stood always by your thinking only”

How Vallalar splits the process of thinking into becoming the object of thinking and transforming himself as the subject of thinking simultaneously and still conscious of the plane of integration where the subject and the object coexist in an undivided alliance with the Almighty? I do not think anywhere in the spiritual realm of this world such a kind of perfect union of the soul with its Master has been poured forth in so much meaningful expression.

We can feel the intensity of difference in the states of experience towards the Almighty between the Siddha and Vallalar

Testaments of higher degrees, the great Vedas altogether

Mortally are afraid,

It is on record that Rg Veda sings about the glory of God of eternity without name and form and identifies Him as well above the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Rudhra. In the same way, the Vedantha holds Brahmam above the pantheon of gods and above the trinity. In the same way, Saiva Siddhantham holds God above the trinity. The profuse down pouring of the songs of the saints four extol the supreme above the trinity. “Nana Jeeva Vadha Kattalai” meticulously records the evolution of the soul from the Brahmam in the same manner.

If so, then why Vallalar should declare in all certainty that the all the Vedas and the agamas were mortally afraid to speak of Him?

Agamas and Vedas are the theory experienced by the illuminated seers. But Vallalar has experienced the reality of God Himself.

While Maha vakya says “I am That”, Vallalar reverts the ‘Maha Vakya’ by saying that “We are all of Us,” thereby stressing the spiritual integration of all souls which is a condition precedent for the soul to speak about the union with God.

as of my mind’s measure now

I’m to attain illumination, to state simply very few on that day

It is not in the capacity of my mind or the words which are competent to speak about the grandeur of the Almighty. When I attain the state of illumination from the infernal darkness of ignorance, then I would be in a position to speak very little about the Almighty.

Now I would like to draw an analogy as to what exactly is the infernal darkness (இருளாமை) from the life history of Vallalar.

We all know who was with intent to wrongfully acquire a portion of it and legally pass on such illegal possession to his descendants, eyeing on the landed property bequeathed to Vallalar by the villagers. He was well versed in the tradition of Vallalar. He was physically a vegetarian but with thoughts full of attachment to material acquisitions. We know how he had befriended the Vettavalam Jamindhar well in advance only to convince him not to pay taxes on the gifted lands on the plea that it could be met with by the receipts to the organization. We also know as to how a portion of prime land was left out willfully withholding payment of taxes and when the land was auctioned on the ground of non-payment of taxes, he came forward to bid and accomplished the acquisition in his name.

We all know that the rest is a legal history now laid to rest by the grace activated jurisprudence.

We consider normally a person closer to the nucleus of faith as good in all respects. It is evident that even while living by the side of gracious Vallalar, outwardly adhering to all the disciplines imposed, the mind is susceptible to its own evil designs unmindful of the consequences of such nefarious scheming which may cause havoc in life in line with the laws of karma. It was an ingenious move, more powerful than the maneuver of Viswanathan Anand to win the crown of the world in the game of chess.

What gave him such a confidence that of all the persons, he could outwit God and Vallalar?

Is it not a premeditated murder?

The state of such a mind is the state of infernal darkness. All light in this world could not illuminate him that he was committing the most heinous of all crimes, breaching the trust reposed in him.

Let us travel to the land of the Divine where everything is owned by the Almighty, nothing is owned by anyone of the souls, but shared by every one of the souls.
