in the book "Babaji and the 18 Siddha Kriya Yoga Tradition" written by Marshall Govindan a chapter (9) is on our beloved Vallalar.
About His passing we read in the book (page 129):
"On the auspicious day of January 30, 1874, at the age of 50, Ramalinga wrote and released to his devotees the following statement:
"My beloved ones!" I have to be out of your sight for a time. Do not worry. Keep the Light of the lamp (Gnana Deepam) burning forever. Imagine that god is there and worship the light. You will be amply rewarded. I am in this body now and after a while I shall enter into all the bodies of His creation. Close the door and lock it outside. The room, if ordered to be opened, will only be void."
Ramalinga then shut himself up in his room in the Mettukuppam hut. Later that night, as the devotees outside the room were chanting "Arul perunjyoti. Arul perunjyoti. Tanniperun karunai. Arul perun jyoti" (Supreme Grace Light, Supreme Grace Light, pour down upon us, Supreme Grace Light) suddenly a flash of violet light emanated from Ramalinga's room, signalling the merger of Ramalinga "into all the bodies of His creation". For, when the room was eventually opened it was found to be empty. Ramalinga had disappeared without a trace."
Please, can someone clear up the event?

Whatever HE told infront of the people was very well known thing and the room was found empty too. In Vallalar's ThiruArutpa song itself have many proofs about HIS attainments and boon that HE got. Actually as per ThiruArutpa, if one meditate deeply into that, one truth will come out that is, Vallalar should have been attained light form much long time before all these happenings. This entereing into room should have been a formal departure to fellow sanmargees or a kind of announcement and this implies HE would not appear in a physical nature. So entering into that room was true only but the flash of violet light part is a question or do not know.
That is what happened on that Great day.
Which is a beautiful dream day for every Sanmargi.
Our Guru alone(I believe) explicitly stated as mentioned above and has successfully DISAPPEARED/MERGED his physical body with the GOD.
He(Vallalar) said it and did it.
This is very good example for a Thirukural 664
It is easy to tell something; It is highly difficult to make it happen
It is really out of our capacity to think and visualise.
It is the golden opportunity he attained by his DHAVAM DHANAM.
In both those, he showed ultimate COMPASSION.
Lot of Proofs for this is his songs at THIRUARUTPA - SIXTH THIRUMURAI.
In one song as pathi iravil..., is great example
Here, he got golden opportunity to see GOD and he got uncountable SIDDHI's
and even at that time, he is asking GOD to give it to all the Human Beings.
What a compassion ? !!!

He also says that it is the fragrance of the God Almighty too.[/
