What is meant by " Oru JAMA neram" in "Perubadesam"?
I see " Oru JAMA neram" in "Perubadesam" to be spent for prayer.

Does " Oru JAMA neram" mean night time?
How many hours is " Oru JAMA neram"?
When "JAMA neram" starts and when it ends?

Please answer.

Dear all,
Oru JAMA neram as quoted by my guru in perubadesam generally means 3hours per day,
But to know at what hours, the following would be self explanatory:-
1) At olden days in tamilnadu time was calculated in NAZHIGAI and in today's
version it's in hours-24hrs, but in NAZHIGAI its 60NAZHIGAI per day.
Also in tamil calender next day starts at evening,
i.e., in tamil calander after sunset the next day starts, but in english calender
next day starts at 0000hrs(exact midnight).

1hour = 2.5nazhigai.
2) English calender in hrs - 18:00hours, 19:00, 22:00, 24:00, 03:00, 06:00, 12:00,

-- Corresponding --
Tamil calender-nazhigai - 00:00nazhi, 02.50, 10:00, 15:00, 22.50, 30:00, 45:00,
3) My guru had advised to have dinner (half by quantity compared to lunch)
before 10Nazhigai.
i.e., before 10:00pm night time.
4) After dinner to meditate until 15nazhigai
i.e., from night 10:00pm to 12:00pm
5) To sleep from 15nazhigai to 22.5nazhigai
i.e., from 12:00pm to 03:00am
6) As guru had quoted at lot of places worshipping at early morning hours
is the very best and right time.
it is understood 03:00am to 06:00am would be the one Jamam time-3hrs.
TO KEEP IN MIND, VERY STRICT SANMARGA SADHAGAR SHOULDN'T SLEEP AND ONLY
PARTIAL OF ABOVE POINTS WOULD BE APPLICABLE TO VERY STRICT SANMARGA SADHU'S.
AS THEIR FOOD,ETC., SHOULD BE ONLY FOR KEEPING THIS BODY ALIVE INTACT WITH THE WORLD
WHICH MY GURU DID FREQUENTLY AS QUOTED BY GURU STUDENT MR.THOZHUVUR VELAYUTHANAR,
QUOTE
IN BEGINNING STAGES,
GURU VALLALAR USED TO TAKE UPAVASAM FOR 1 TO 2MONTHS, DURING THE TIME HE CONSUMES
ONLY BOILED JAGGERY WATER(TAMIL-NATTU VELLAM) AND NOTHING ELSE.
ALSO DURING NON-UPAVASAM(NORMAL TIMES)GURU TAKES FOOD ONLY ONCE EVERY TWO TO THREE DAYS,
AND THAT TOO ONLY VERY FEW (ONE OR TWO HAND TIMES) HAND OF FOOD
.
UNQUOTE
IN LATER STAGES,
NO ONE HAD SEEN GURU VALLALAR SLEEP, DRINKING WATER, HAVING FOOD, REASON WE ALL
KNOW VERY WELL

Dear Ashok Kumar,
Thank you for your detailed reply.
I see the following in your reply:
Meditating for 2 hours between 10:00PM and 12:00 Midnight
Sleeping for 3 hours only between 12:00 Midnight and 3:00AM
Praying for 3 hours between 3:00AM and 6:00AM
It looks like night time is for us and the day time for the world.
We struggle to come up because we can't minimize our sleeping time.
We not only take our allotted 3 hour sleep time but also the times allotted for both Meditation and prayer.
Doctors recommend atleast 8 hours of deep sleep in order to be active in day time.
We therefore push our Meditation to day time which is not effective/efficient.
We feel like we have to eat more and more to get more and more enery. Eating less can help us in minimizing our sleeping time.
Please share among us all other techniques we can try to reduce our sleeping time.
